i hate hate hate hate vomit that stupid crappy leet talk ! ! ! ! 😡

whats with it anyway ? it doesnt show ppl are leet.

in my mind it shows them to be complete moronic tossers, who probably cant spell to save themselves and use a combination of number and letters to cover up how they can barely grasp the correct spelling of <47.

everytime dev puts that pathetic leet welcome on in the room i have to remind myself i am NOT dyslexic and it's not me with a problem.

next time i see some idiotic leet talk i will be making an effort to learn how to ban and when i do....the next person to 4W3LC0M3 P45H1NGFL0W3R 70 X77R is gonna cop it ! ! !

It was actually a method used long ago (we're talking in the 10 year range) that "computer security experts" used to communicate amongst themselves. A form of slang.
Some use ebonics. Some use "gangsta". Some use "Georgian". The hackers and the coders of time past used "l33t".
Unfortunately, the users now most often fall into the poser category, trying to be something they will never actually be. And 99% of the originals moved on to bigger and better things... like coding for major corperations, or in the case of Mitnik, simply getting out of prison.

Kevin Mitnik. First guy to ever be publicly charged and convicted of hacking. Got a few years in prison, and is not permitted to own a personal computer anymore.

Actually, he attended a computer show just after being released from prison, and was totally lost on the new technology in home computers (remember... this is a guy that was locked away when the fastest thing you could get was a 14.4... and you were elite if you had that kind of technology).
Basically, he's lost in today's world. Everything he knew is now obsolete.
Best way to break down a hacker. Take away everything they know, and give it back to them when the technology has changed so much that their "special knowledge" is taught in second grade computer class.

Woah. That must be pretty scary... not knowing what anything is. At least it worked though... lol.

Edit - Ever seen the film "The Net" with Sandra Bullock? I suddenly got a flashback of that after reading your post Scott 😛

For those who havent seen it, basically her identity is stolen by hackers and because barely anyone knew her to start with she's helpless... the people she did know are slowly getting picked off and killed, to erase all traces of her existance... the only way she can prove that what she's saying is the truth is by exploiting the program used to steal her identity.
